News: How Airlines Are Getting Passengers To Book More In 2024
The New Flight Deal That Could Help Your Budget
Happy Travel Tuesday, here are some the top trends in travel right now:
Unknown Destinations & Flight To Nowhere - Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) recently made headlines for selling tickets on a flight with a "unknown destination” as a promotional tool to encourage members of their loyalty program to try out new destinations. And while SAS is taking off for destinations unknown, it is a flight to nowhere for two leading US-discount carriers. The JetBlue and Spirit Airlines merger has been called off and while regulators may be celebrating this is very troubling news for the travel industry, as regional airlines will face profitability headwinds throughout 2024 as post-pandemic passenger loads drop, and fuel begins to creep higher.
Summer of Sales: As a result, we’ve seen a heavy focus on price promotion and sales from low-cost carriers such as Southwest, Frontier, Avelo, PLAY, and others to get more bookings locked in as the consumer becomes more price sensitive Frontier has been aggressively promoting their (somewhat restrictive) “All-You-Can-Fly” Summer Pass for $399, where PLAY recently offered free stopovers in Iceland for upcoming flights.
IRL Investments - The pandemic brought the cruise and theme park industries to a grinding stop, as local restrictions locked down areas of gathering, however a renewed investment in IRL experiences. Cruise companies have been debuting new ships, such as Royal Carribean’s Icon of the Seas, and theme parks are also expanding as well. Disney recently announced a $60 Million investment in their theme parks, and LEGOLAND California, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, will open a new Dino Valley park this month. Universal Orlando will open Epic Adventure in the Summer of 2025.
